Given the high popularity of StarCraft and World of Warcraft in Korea, did this law nudge Blizzard toward their own real names policy for Battle.net?
Oliver Day, a Harvard student and former online security consultant was the one to put forward this notion, reports Kotaku. Those laws were brought in to tackle negative community environments like ‘trolling’ from behind anonymity.
Blizz is using that as their reasoning behind forcing users who wish to post on their community forums to reveal their actual names. Many are against the idea but some are also for it. The problem lies of course in the stigma attached to MMO players.
Are you for or against this Real ID expansion by Blizzard? It will first affect StarCraft II’s forums and then eventually World of Warcraft’s when Cataclysm releases.
