Because PS3 was ”later than Xbox” it’s going to go on longer, so Microsoft should unveil before Sony. Chatter talks 2012 reveal, 2013 launch.
“Looking from the outside, it was Microsoft that released the first of this generation of consoles. Naturally, in my opinion, Microsoft will make the first move,” Yoshida told Develop at E3 2010. Though he also has to consider Nintendo Wii.
“Or, because Nintendo’s approach was not to upgrade much on its basic hardware – Wii doesn’t even support HD resolution – so they might be the first to move.”
”Probably the watch should be on these companies, in my opinion. Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan.” The late arrival of PS3, and its high cost, was because Sony took both 3D and motion into account when designing their next-gen console said Sony super boss Kaz Hirai.
Publisher Ubisoft expects new console hardware out in 2013.
”The new hardware, if it’s not new platforms coming, the things like Move, Kinect, 3DS, these will all reinvigorate the market, and I do see in the next 12 month if not growth then stabilisation before what I assume to be a new transition into new consoles probably in the next two to three years,” said Ubi marketing boss Murray Pannel.
“I genuinely think games can get better,” he added. “Experiences can get more rich and varied, and the new platforms, Kinect and Move, can help enhance that, certainly.”
Rumour is a bound that Microsoft is already kicking around technical specs for their next console, but we’ll never know for sure. Do you expect new consoles by 2013?
