Aaron Greenberg says the ”tortoise keeps going,” as it secured 356,700 sales. Nintendo Wii meanwhile had ‘terrible sales time’ with 244k.
Those 244,300 Nintendo Wii sales only just managed to pull ahead of the PlayStation 3’s 226,000 console sales for August. Nintendo DS even played second fiddle to Xbox 360 as it got 342,700 - though that’s well beyond Sony PSP at just 79,400.
Microsoft Xbox 360 even managed to claim half of the top 10 software spots for August. EA Sports’ Madden 11 led the videogame sales with 920,800 copies for Xbox 360 and 893,600 for the PS3. Mafia II did well too with 121,600 for 360 with PS3 figures unlisted.
September could be another ”huge sales month for Xbox 360” what with that little independent title called Halo: Reach, yeah I think that’s its name.
”Looking forward, Halo: Reach releases on 14th September and will kick off the mega-title releases for the remainder of the year. The 360 install base is now about triple what it was when Halo 3 was launched so the potential audience for Reach is significantly larger,” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
”Between the size of the potential audience, the quality of the game previews, and the hefty marketing program behind the game, we can expect big numbers to be reported with September results.” Halo: Reach has had a huge marketing campaign.
