While the trailers may feature fancy live-action, the game itself doesn’t. They were used for ”setting the mood,” said Insomniac. Gameplay was all real-time.
”It’s new, improved. It’s a more focused experience, progression-based, and takes place in maps located around the world,” said community manager James Stevenson. Battles raging online get ‘reported on’ during the singleplayer campaign.
Also the gameplay included in the trailer was all actual footage from Insomniac developers giving it a run through. ”The gameplay section (which obviously wasn’t live action) was all totally in-engine and real-time. Some of it was with a director’s camera, but if the gun was in Capelli’s hand, that’s us playing the game at Insomniac this past week!”
”Live-action is just for the trailers only and setting the mood. The game cutscenes will be in-engine,” added the senior executive. The HUD was also disabled for the cinematic trailer. Stevenson revealed the game was ”playable” all the way through right now.
Resistance 3 releases exclusively on PS3 September 6th, 2011.
