To that end Sony won’t be spending ”crazy amounts of money” on 3D titles, expecting everyone to buy the 3D hardware straight away.
Simply, 3D gaming is ”going to depend on the uptake of 3D televisions,” Bickerstaff told Gamasutra. Sony will be launching their line of 3D-capable Bravia TVs this summer.
”We’re not going to spend crazy, crazy amounts of money”, he said, ”expecting everyone tomorrow to have 3D TVs, clearly. But, we believe this is the future, and three or four years from now, you won’t be able to buy a television that doesn’t have a 3D capability.”
Exactly how many Sony studios are behind this push for 3D? ”It’s all a bit confidential, but a lot, let’s put it that way. We’ve been amazed by the enthusiasm from the developers,” added Bickerstaff. Sony wants 3D gaming to be emphasised this year.
”To be honest, we have not had an internal project to throw at people to make their games in 3D, yet there are loads of games in 3D,” he noted. MLB 10: The Show, Super Stardust HD, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, Wipeout HD and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift have all been shown in 3D, which is down to ”the enthusiasm from the developers themselves.” Does a 3D gaming future have your support?
