Many feel that 3D specs are a strong barrier to the technology. Without glasses the figure rises just 12%. Of surveyed HDTV owners 35% want 3DTV.
65% say they owned a hi-def TV with apparently 35% of that group looking to purchase a 3DTV within the next 2 years. For sporting events and traditional broadcasting the uptake with 3D specs was less enthusiastic at 36% and 20% respectively.
Blu-ray movies were on-par with videogames at 80%.
The U-Decide Initiative is described as "an industry wide effort to survey console and PC gamers to determine what customers want, which gaming experiences will ultimately sell, and what the near future buying patterns will be."
"U-Decide 2010 was made possible by The S-3D Gaming Alliance (S3DGA), Panasonic, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Steelseries, Zalman, Blitz Games Studios, Computer Power User, and Meant to be Seen." Two surveys were conducted, one targeting traditional 2D gamers and the other already avid 3D gamers. See their graph of results below.
