Even zombified, hate crimes just aren’t cool. Capcom’s Japanese producers are open ”more than ever” to western team ideas and assets.
It all started because a Resident Evil 5 debut showcase had a white protagonist knocking off zombified African residents, who were… black. Naturally Capcom had an agenda to restart the apartheid on the continent through this subliminal trickery, obviously - duh.
Luckily media frenzy stepped in to save the day and had Capcom on the back foot as they defended the game, given its setting and the whole zombie outbreak premise.
”Since the RE5 controversy, we have become much more aware of how important it is that we are part of the asset creation process early on so that we are able to have a say in the end product,” Capcom US’ Melody Pfeiffer said, a senior PR manager.
”We are also designing a lot of our own assets from this side of the pond so that we are able to make strategic pieces of content that make sense for our market.”
”We are working really closely with our producers in Japan to construct these materials for the West and they are open more than ever to hearing our thoughts and ideas for assets.”
The world is safe as racism was once again defeated by noting people are different in colour, and some deserve special consideration above others. Capcom will think twice before attempting to tell a story involving accurate population diversity ratios again!
Resident Evil 5 soon gets PlayStation Move support for free for owners of the ‘Gold Edition’, while stand copies won’t receive the update because of technical issues.
