Leading bookmaker Paddy Power has announced that it will be taking bets on video game competitions starting with Super Street Fighter IV.
A ‘heavyweight’ match between two of the UK’s most respected players will be hosted at publisher Capcom’s European HQ, and streamed live to the Paddy Power Website at 7pm on Thursday 29th April.
”Videogames are as much a legitimate sport as any other,” said Paddy Power, communications director, Paddy Power.
”We wanted to offer sports fans and games players the ultimate thrill by offering the chance to win big on the outcome of a Super Street Fighter IV competition. If it proves popular, we’ll open further books on other video game competitions.”
I’ve never really been a betting man, but this is tempting. You can imagine the coverage though can’t you? Not only are gamers addicted to their games, but now we’re addicted to games and gambling!
