The studio have had ”no issues with it” whilst developing their motion title. Understands some say they ”don’t need motion” but that’s Wii’s fault.
CEO Lol Scagg of Cohort has told Develop that Move is essentially a ‘step up’ from Nintendo and their Wii console. ”The PlayStation Move is a great piece of hardware,” praised the studio boss. “It has a fantastic feel to it and it’s incredibly accurate.”
”We’ve had no issues with it, and the hardware and the libraries have come on well.” Scagg believes that Move and Natal will end up swaying a lot of core gamers who have sworn off motion gaming because of the Nintendo Wii and their ‘casual kid’ image.
“Having used both controllers a lot, I’d say it was clear that the Move controller is so much more accurate”, he said, referring to Wii. ”And it’s not just across the X and Y-axis either, the Z axis is really accurate as well.”
“I understand that, if you read any of the forums,” he continued, ”…people state they don’t need motion control, but that’s because they’ve likened motion control to the Wii.”
While Nintendo has made enormous strides with the Wii platform, in promoting both motion control gaming and enticing more of an audience, it has also turned a lot of the more traditional gamer base off motion - as it’s seen as shovelware central.
”Once Sony and Microsoft start releasing their own games for their motion controllers, I think the core will come round to it.” Scagg warns that developers shouldn’t tack on motion controls just because it could be the ‘flavour of the month’ to do so.
”Some things just don’t fit, and I’m hoping – with these new motion controllers – developers don’t say ‘oh we’ll just force in motion controls’ because it would add something new,“ added the Cohort CEO.
Do you fear casual shovelware will invade Xbox 360 and PS3?
