Acclaim operates servers for the MMO in North America. The game has been beset by woe since its launch, with its dev team bankrupt a while back.
A couple of months after Chronicles of Spellborn was out the door and in the hands of the public it ditched monthly subscriptions for a free-to-play model. This wasn’t enough to stop the player base shedding numbers in the droves.
Acclaim operate servers in the US but apparently the main website is riddled with screw ups like a dodgy download setup client, corrupted game patches, and even a bug that forces users to change their password every time they log in, reports Massively.
”…Frogster subsidiary Frogster Asia Co. Ltd. could yet again not reach an agreement on further cooperation with the Dutch licensor Spellborn NV regarding the intended enhancements and publishing of the free to play version of the MMO Game ‘The Chronicles of Spellborn’ in Asia and is thus forced to close down the development studio and to dismiss all staff who dealt with the free to play version by order of Spellborn NV.”
The Chronicles of Spellborn has finally reached the end of the road? Have you ever played the MMO, videogamer? Frogster will now continue to pump capital into the ”not yet break-even operation of ‘Runes of Magic’”, a Korean-based MMO.
