These ”content silos” will be provided through a ”virtual cable operator” via the Internet. If they go ahead nothing will be appearing for at least a year.
It was inevitable really that Microsoft would want to start slicing into the cable-TV pie, or at least in the US anyway. Sony is reportedly fiddling with Google TV for use with their Bravia line of TVs and so this looks to be Microsoft’s response to that.
