The characters ”appear crisp and clean” in 2D while it’s the backgrounds that alter for 3D, to make the fighters appear to ‘pop’ out. No fatalities over 3D specs.
You and your chum can take it in turns trying out those 3D specs instead of having to go all 2D. ”We didn’t want 3D to change the basic mechanics or complicate things needlessly,” said Mortal Kombat creative director and series co-creator Ed Boon.
Only the backgrounds are actually enabled for 3D stereoscopic witchcraft while the characters themselves remain faithful to the two dimensional plane. “Our 3D implementation makes the characters pop from the background a little more, helps you focus on them,” said Boon. Mortal Kombat only supports 3D viewing with PS3.
