It's a film about virtual reality wish fulfillment being turned into a computer game genre that is essentially all about virtual reality wish fulfillment, as an MMO based on the upcoming 2012 remake of Total Recall has been announced by Sony Pictures. The film will star Colin Farrell in the title role of Quaid, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original film.
The MMO will be a browser-based title developed by the Chinese developer ZQGame, which specializes in online titles, and published by Los Angeles-based See Games. The game itself will be free-to-play, and monetized by microtransactions. Players will engage in both PvP and PvE content, along with a "collaborative memory quest" system.
Total Recall will be released in August 3, 2012, presumably in concert with the motion picture release of the film as well.
