According to Microsoft, the company said the console is on track to have its biggest year since the Xbox 360 was launched in late 2005. The launch of Gears of War 3 in September promises to keep sales high, as the company stated, ”we expect Xbox 360 to maintain its lead throughout the year, ending 2011 as the number one console worldwide.”
“Current-gen console”, by definition, excludes portable hardware such as Nintendo’s DS and 3DS.
Microsoft did not mention any Xbox 360 titles hitting the top 10, though no major 360-exclusive titles were released in July. However, the company did reveal that its free Xbox Live Arcade game Kinect Fun Labs enjoyed 1 million downloads in the two months since its release. One of the popular features of the app is Avatar Kinect.
