EA has a stranglehold on anything NFL so Backbreaker featured no known teams or players, but did let gamers create their own. Mixed reviews left it with 58 on Metacritic.
British developer NaturalMotion has kept a stiff upper lip and is giving Backbreaker another go with (a) Vengeance as they will release its ”first look” on Xbox Live Arcade this summer. It’s fluid and dynamic movement of players was praised.
Unfortunately other areas of gameplay let it down. It uses NaturalMotion’s Euphoria engine which was licensed out to the likes of LucasArts for The Force Unleashed and to Rockstar Games for Grand Theft Auto IV (it made pedestrians laugh-out-loud hilarious).
