Microsoft ”do not comment on rumour and speculation”, and the idea of Xbox 360 titles on PC with Windows 8 is super rumour and extreme speculation.
The executive types over at Microsoft can’t even comment on what could be, if this was even remotely true. ”Unfortunately, this is all we would offer and not be able to discuss in any further depth, even hypothetically,” a representative told us.
Recently it was announced that the Games for Windows and Xbox Live clients would be merging into one platform. This is likely the source of the supposed Windows 8 feature.
”This is to create a single destination for LIVE gaming experiences across Windows and Xbox 360 so that members of our passionate communities across Xbox 360 and Games for Windows can now purchase and get details on their favorite games, all in one place.”
”I’m not sure if the Windows 8 functionality rumours are a product of this speculation based on this news, but would like to highlight that this may be the case,” added the rep. While the marriage between the two Live platforms looks like it could support this rumour, would Microsoft really want to shoot their console sales in the foot?
Of course if the speculation of a new Xbox console being unveiled next year proves accurate then perhaps Microsoft want to double-dip with their Xbox 360 games catalogue? What better way to clear some sales than let the PC crowd have a bash at them?
