The studio’s Sheldon Carter says it’s ”cool that we’re innovating” with mechanics but story is still struggling but it’s eventually where we’ll ”all end up going.”
”I think it’s a progression that everyone’s going to get to eventually,” said Project director Carter at Digital Extremes. ”I’m not trying to say we’re ahead of the curve or anything like that, that’s just the choice we made for this game.”
The Darkness 2, a sequel to Starbreeze’s The Darkness for Xbox 360 and PS3, focuses a lot on a very personal journey for the lead character as he battles with the entity known as The Darkness within himself and a mysterious ‘cult’ after it.
”I think story is the final frontier for games. We’re kind of getting there tech-wise. Mechanics-wise it’s cool that we’re innovating but it’s still in the basic same themes. I think story is eventually where we’ll all end up going.”
Over the years Hollywood and the games industry have been getting closer and THQ even have a whole project with film director Guillermo del Toro called inSANE. The movie big shot reckons that games will ”completely take over storytelling in our society” soon.
The Darkness 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 4th in Europe.
