First person shooter in "feudal Japan" at Square Enix, canned?

An artist contractor that worked for Square Enix has revealed that he was involved in a ”first person shooter based in feudal Japan” at the Massachusetts office.

From February to July 2010 he acted as art director on the project. References on his CV seem to indicate it never go past the pitch and demo phase.

The artist appears bound still to an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and so can’t exactly blab specifics beyond it being a ”first person shooter based in feudal Japan”. He worked as an art director as Square’s Cambridge, Massachusetts facilities.

Dirge of Cerberus is among Square Enix past foray in the shooter market, but it suffered panning from critics when it released back in 2006 as a third-person shooter. The contractor Daveed Kaplan is currently at Microsoft’s 343 Industries.
