Rainbow Six: Patriots aims to capture the reality of modern-day terrorism, with the players taking on the role of a new Team Rainbow member, making tough ethical decisions. The game revolves around a new terrorist threat calling themselves the “True Patriots.” The group consists of a highly-trained, well-organized group of militias, capitalizing on ”the growing sense of frustration and anger in a modern day America that they feel is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests.”
According to the press release, Patriots’ storyline explores an ultra-realistic “what-if” scenario inspired by real events and characters, allowing players to experience events from multiple perspectives to try to create an unprecedented level of immersion.
Players will enjoy new “enhanced” squad management, with context sensitive button control. Combat itself has been improved as cover and weapon systems have been redesigned to accommodate multiple combat situations. The game features new Rappel and Breach mechanics, including Wall & Ceiling Breach, Fast Rope Rappel, inverted ‘Aussie Style Rappel’, Infiltrate & Subdue, among others.
The game’s new Scan mode allows players to strategically breach and infiltrate areas. The new tool will provide a thermal read on the situation, allowing players to determine the squad’s best course to overwhelm and defeat enemies.
The game of course will also focus on intensive multiplayer, including a new pre-game online lobby called “the Sandtable”, a holographic display that helps acquaint players with the level maps before they jump into the action. This will help players strategically coordinate attacks and enhance squad tactics.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots will be released in 2013 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
