Valve has issued an update on the hacker attack on Steam that left transaction data from 2004-2008 compromised, including ”user names, email addresses, encrypted billing addresses, and encrypted credit card information.” Fortunately, the data did not include Steam passwords.
According to Gabe Newell, the people who have been conducting the investigation have stated that there’s no evidence that the hackers have cracked the credit card data or billing address information yet, but it might be a good idea to monitor credit card activity all the same.
The initial evidence that the Steam database was compromised was back in November 2011.
