It should speed up browsing for digital wares too. Maintenance is scheduled for Monday which may just hold the new designs launch? Apparently it will hit EU PSN October 17th.
That coincides with the usual EU PS Store update timetable, while the Monday downtime will be great for getting the new PS Store ready for the US update on Tuesday.
What has Sony changed with the new fancy design? Well there are plenty of aesthetic overhauls as the story becomes a lot more about its visual appeal and cues for users to browse and navigate through. Game, movie and TV content is splattered across its main page. The entire screen space is used for the store now.
Sony engineers have been busy making sure the new store UI scales according to screen size so those still gaming SD TV style won’t be penalised. Notable characters from big name games will be billboarding their way through a lot of the store now. Pages will scroll in a carousel like manner, revealed Sony.
It will also feature a robust search engine that can even handle terible spellingz. Sony will continue to refine the new search. “What will be refreshing to customers is that this will represent a new agile programme that will enable us to add new content every month or so, rather than dumping the new content and saying we’re done,” said Elliot Dumville.
Filtering options now include the type of content, price and even by what peripherals are supported. Sony also separate out PlayStation 3 content from PSP and PS Vita as most browsing the store are after PS3 content. This means the handhelds get their own isolated catalogues. Displayed content is now also grouped for ease like demos and DLC.
PAL regions get to enjoy the new PlayStation Store from October 17th, while the US hits October 16th.
