A power outage has knocked out Steam, as well as valvesoftware.com and steampowered.com. It was initially feared that the outage was the result of a hacking attempt, but, fortunately, the outage is merely due to Valve's data center's uninterruptible power supplies conking out.
Steam and its associated services were down for 80 minutes, and are now back up to normal functionality.
Valve has reassured gamers it was a physical issue. "The power is back on now and we're working to get service restored as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused," the company said in a statement to the press.
Yesterday, Valve reported that the November hacker intrusion had not given away unencrypted credit card info or Steam passwords.
