Microsoft has announced that Halo 4, the most expensive game the publisher has ever produced, has earned $220M in its first 24 hours of release, and is expected to earn $300M in its first week of release.
In comparison, Halo: Reach earned $200M on its first day, while Halo 3 earned $170M. According to Microsoft, the entire Halo series has earned $3.38B.
Right now, Halo 4 is the highest grossing videogame release on 2012, though Call of Duty: Black Ops II is expected to surpass it when it’s released later this month.
In related news, Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, the five episode web series based on the game has drawn 46 million total views to date. 39 million of these views came through Machinima’s YouTube channel alone.
