It seems that Obsidian Entertainment has started cutting staff, and an estimated 20-30 persons have been let go. Much of the information is coming from those laid off themselves, as ex-members are tweeting about their release, while others are listing their termination from Obsidian on their LinkedIn resumes.
In one case, animator Andre Nyugen sent a message to his co-workers who had been fired: "Fellow Obsidianites who were laid off today...I was lucky, but I've been on the other end of that. Your talents will take you far!"
"Another project canceled, this time for a future next-gen project and the layoffs impacted that team, plus the existing South Park team. Approximately 20-30 people from all disciplines, including one person who started yesterday, as well as one who started last week," Joystiq was allegedly told by an inside source.
Back in April 2011, Obsidian had laid off a number of staff then as well. Could it be that a round of layoffs is an annual business practice for the developer?
Obsidian is currently working on the roleplaying game South Park: The Game for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
