Last year, FIFA 12 suffered a massive phishing scam revolving around an Ultimate Team exploit. This year proves little different, as a new controversy involving an Ultimate Team exploit is plaguing FIFA 13.
According to fans, some gamers have been using a browser exploit to gain access to restricted Ultimate Team player cards for stars like Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, which they then turn around and sell for profit.
EA Sports took down the web app for a period of time before restoring it, and issued a press release via the official Twitter, ”Yesterday, a very small number of users attempted to gain an unfair advantage on the FUT web app. The FUT13 Web App had to be taken offline to be stabilized and ensure a level playing field for all FUT users.
“Permanent bans for FIFA 13 FUT have been served to all users who attempted to gain an unfair advantage. Thanks for your patience while we create the best experience for all fans of FUT.”
However, fans are still concerned that the game’s economy has been imbalanced with the influx of ill-gotten powerful, rare players.
