Funcom has announced that the present day, occult-themed MMO The Secret World will be arriving on the 19th June this year. The game was originally to be launched in April, but the publisher elected to delay the release to allow for more development time and polishing.
The decision was the result of hands-on press events and the current beta testing the MMO is undergoing. Funcom found that while the game needed polish and refinement, 90% of the testers stated they'd purchase the game at launch. The beta currently holds 750,000 registered players.
According to Funcom creative director Ragnar Tørnquist, “Allowing for even more time to polish the game really shows just how much faith Funcom as a company has in The Secret World and how committed we are to making it the best it can be. The additional time will also allow us to carry out even more quality beta testing, and soon we will also be announcing several public beta events where hundreds of thousands of gamers will get to test the game prior to launch.”
Strategy Informer's Joe Robinson previewed the game last Fall and likened it to a Lovecraftian APB-style MMO. Check out his preview here.
