GAME has around ‘six’ suitors sniffing their freshly administrated corpse, reports Retail Week. There’s another 20 or so after their international assets especially in Portugal and Spain.
US rival GameStop is among the top contenders but apparently won’t get caught in a bidding war. Comet-owner OpCapita could be back in the running. They’ve 10 days to find a buyer.
GAME entered voluntary administration but was adamant they’ll continue to operate during the process. It will be protected by creditors for 10 days.
Banks RBS, Barclays and HSBC turned down an offer from OpCapita last week as they were more interested in ‘minimising the size of their haircut’, claimed Retail Week’s source. An analyst believes GAME will actually survive but will see its store count tumble from 600 in the UK to somewhere around 300 to 400.
