Sega has confirmed that it has enters into in a partnership with Double Fine to publisher Ron Gilbert’s latest adventure game, The Cave, which will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC in early 2013. The publisher had teased the game with a twitter pic yesterday.
The Cave’s unique mechanic is that the player must choose three adventurers out of a large group to explore The Cave, each with their own personality and skill set. When exploring, the players will find unexpected surprises, such as a subterranean amusement park, a medieval castle, or a fully armed and ready-to-launch nuclear-tipped ICBM.
According to Gibert, who penned such classic comedy adventure titles as Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders and The Secret of Monkey Island, “The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game. I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at SEGA believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.”
