Pricewaterhouse Coopers has confirmed that GAME Australia has undergone its first round of layoffs, with 281 staff fired and 60 stores closed. Of the 281 layoffs, 264 were from outlets and 17 were from the main GAME Australia head office.
GAME Australia had gone into administration with Pricewaterhouse Coopers as the company’s administrator.
PwC’s Kate Warwick stated in a press release, “This is a difficult time for employees and closing the stores was not a decision we made easily. However it is not financially viable to continue to operate at this level at this time.”
Inside sources have told the press that this is just the first of many waves of redundancies and closers, with the next wave of layoffs scheduled for next week.
