The last Baldur’s Gate game to be released was the Xbox / PlayStation 2 classic Baldur’s Game: Dark Alliance 2, a deep Diablo-styled action-RPG. Since then, the official Baldur’s Gate site has been inactive - til now.
Now, visiting the site has a bombastic music score assaulting the visitor, with a quote underneat a skull reading, ”‘The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny, chaos will be sown by their passage.’ So sayeth the wise Alaundo.”
What could this possibly mean?
It was announced recently that Baldur’s Gate II Complete Edition will be heading to Steam, but this new splash page apparently has nothing to do with the bundle. According to former BioWare designer Trent Oster, who runs the digital game store Beamdog and owns the site, states, ”We’re not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we’re hoping to announce something soon.”
The Infinity Engine was the original engine used for the Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale series, as well as Planescape: Torment.
Oster also tweeted recently, ”A new toy for the office. What could we be developing that would require an iMac?”
Is a new Baldur’s Gate coming - and if it is, is it multiplatform, or an iOS exclusive? Stay tuned.
