If you didn’t preorder a digital copy of Guild Wars 2 by now, you’ll have to wait after launch before you can purchase it online, or otherwise purchase a retail copy. ArenaNet has announced that it has ceased digital preorders of it’s subscription-free MMO.
ArenaNet stated on the game’s Facebook page, ”We have sold out of keys for digital distribution in North America. GameStop and Best Buy still have stock available.”
The reason is that the company doesn’t want to overload servers on launch.
”We limit sales to ensure we have enough capacity for our customers,” the developer explained, ”We’re likely to have capacity available after the initial crunch at the start of the weekend. Players who purchase when we’re able to resume digital sales at buy.guildwars2.com will still be able to play for the remainder of the weekend.”
The game has no set release date yet; it’s expected to see its launch in 2012.
