Don Mattrick left Microsoft for greener pastures (namely, the green of at least $50M), but news service Bloomberg is reporting that in 2010, Mattrick tried to get Microsoft to purchase Zynga.
Back in 2010, Zynga was the hottest commodity, a casual/social gaming service with killer social apps like Mafia Wars and the Ville titles (FarmVille, CityVille, and so on.)
However, despite the increase of Facebook users, Zynga’s games fell off in popularity, thanks to the rise of tablet and smartphone gaming.
It’ll be interesting to see if Mattrick can get Zynga back to prominence.
