You can adjust the final look of Face Work’s digital actor by tweaking parameters, as Nvidia explains what technology is behind it. It was developed in conjunction with USC’s Creative Technology.
Instead of using actors covered in special suits with dots plastered all over them, Face Works utilises a specialised light stage to capture your soul! - or maybe just your likeness.
”This demonstration highlights the state of the art in performance capture. All Ira’s motions were acted out in a “light stage” at the Institute for Creative Technology at USC,” says Nvidia.
”The team there headed by Dr. Paul Debevec is able to photographically capture facial geometry, surface detail, and lighting information of an actor without any of the traditional tricks of face markers or special makeup.”
In order to enjoy this fancy tech you’ll need a CUDA-capable graphics card with DirectX 11. Looks like ‘Ira’ could use a hairpiece from AMD’s TressFX. Check out the Face Works project at the official Nvidia website.
