Some fans of the Mad Max movie franchise are up in arms in that the hero of the videogame has a gravelly American accent, not an Australian.
Avalanche founder Christofer Sunberg explained the change in an interview, “We treated this as a completely new property, and that was really the only way for us to take on a licensed game. It’s the first licensed game we’ve ever taken on. And we wanted to treat it like an original IP. The setting – where it is in the world – has really nothing to do with the Mad Max video game. It’s really a game to do with the relationships between different people in this world.”
Oddly, it seems that the game still takes place in the Outback. As for changing Max’s voice to an Aussie-accented one? Sundberg shrugged, “I don’t know. We’ll see.”
Mad Max is due to be released in 2014 for PC and consoles.
