Indie developer Perihelion Interactive has released the first gameplay trailer for its Tsar-era Russia-inspired science fiction RPG The Mandate, which features an open universe to explore. The game is currently on Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight, and due in Q1 2015 for PC, Mac OS and Linux.
Players take on the role of starship captain, in command of a vessel that constantly evolves and upgrades. In the spirit of Star Trek, players must not only deal with combat situations, but interpersonal issues between crewmates while exploring new worlds. The developer cites X-Com, Fallout, Mount & Blade, Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Star Trek Online as The Mandate’s chief inspirations.
The game’s Kickstarter drive has been highly successful so far, raising $175K of its $500K goal with 34 days left. Players can visit the Kickstarter page here.
