While those three games performed well, they did not meet Square Enix’s expectations. Hitman: Absolution was the 5th best selling game in 2012, while Tomb Raider has topped the charts in the UK since its release. Sleeping Dogs was the bestselling new IP of 2012.
According to the publisher in a statement, “We are reviewing our business in Europe to ensure we have the right structure, content and skills for the changing entertainment landscape. We do expect changes to the UK office, which will affect personnel. We will update you when the time is right, but our priority right now is for the people within the business.”
Yoichi Wada stepped down as Square Enix’s global president last month, citing ”extraordinary losses”.
