Doom 4 is on its way to QuakeCon, but if you’re not attending the conference you won’t get to ogle Bestheda’s upcoming franchise revival.
In a blog post the publisher and developers id Software revealed that the chance to see a sneak peak of the highly anticipated shooter would be kept as an exclusive for convention attendees. I don’t know about you, but I find cloak and dagger stuff like this rather tiresome.
”As announced in our E3 teaser trailer, fans in attendance at QuakeCon 2014 will have the opportunity to get a sneak peek at what’s been going on with the new DOOM game from id Software,” reads the blog post. ”This an exclusive thing we are doing for attendees as part of our Annual QuakeCon Welcome presentation. We’ll have plenty more to show everyone at a later date, but we didn’t want another QuakeCon to go by without doing something special for the amazing QC community and id supporters that have been with us for more than 20 years.”
So that means we’ll have to wait for some blurry, poorly-lit cam footage to leak instead. Seems silly to me, if the game’s ready to show, why not show it? It’ll end up getting out in the end anyway. Perhaps the team behind the game aren’t totally confident in their product; Kotaku ran a piece last year that’s worth a read, suggesting that Doom 4’s development cycle was about as stable as a giraffe in a hurricane. Who knows! We’ll find out soon enough.
QuakeCon 2014 runs from July 17 - 20 in Dallas Texas. Much as I’d like to see thirty seconds of Doom gameplay, that’s a bit too far away for me.
