An alpha and beta build is on track with reduced pricing, he says, with the final build supporting PC, Mac and Linux. He demonstrates road mapping with a pre-alpha demo.
If you’ve been disillusioned with Maxis’ SimCity, and its subsequent failure to overcome crippling mechanics and bugs, then Citybound is likely to pique your Mayoral interest.
Eickhoff shows several animated images of what Citybound proposes, including a mouth-watering final shot of just how big your urban planning could get. Anselm Eickhoff is a fan of A-Train and SimCity 2000, and now wants to tackle the genre he loves so much himself.
Highlights and focus areas:
▪ It will be a single-player game that works completely offline.
▪ The goal is to simulate one whole, huge region at once - no need for tiny city lots or artificial city interaction dynamics.
▪ It will be affordable and will not rely on DLC.
▪ Alpha and Beta versions will be available for a reduced price.
▪ Moddability will be a priority, not an afterthought.
He also takes a few cheeky shots at SimCity’s latest agent simulation system with GlassBox, saying that while he’ll have an agent system to ”simulate individual cars and pedestrians,” he’s not going to have simulate ”individual poop blobs.” Citybound is missing a lot right now but Eickhoff lays out his future plans, which includes terraforming and seasons.
If you love city building be sure to check out the Citybound blog - it’s one to watch. There’s also a Reddit underway.
