Historical grand strategy game Europa Universalis 5 has hit the ground running and, following a series of smaller patches, its update 1.1 release date aims to deliver a bigger batch of free content that makes the experience of leading a country through the ages more immersive and, potentially, a bit smoother.
Titled Rossbach and simply described as “big” in the first developer diary to mention it, EU5’s update 1.1 introduces more content for countries in the German region while also coming to the aid of military-minded players.

Europa Universalis 5’s patch 1.1 entered open beta on February 3, 2026, as confirmed by developer Paradox Tinto over on the Paradox forums.
It made it to the game’s live branch a bit over a month later, on March 5, 2026, when the full patch notes were also shared.

“We are also working on a big free update named 1.1 - ‘Rossbach’ to be released in early February for things that are more risky and take longer time to develop,” Studio Manager Johan Andersson wrote when first discussing it.
“Our focus there is adding some more content to the german region, new clothes, hats & wigs for the 18th century europeans, new improved UI for army and mercenary recruitment and much more.”
Looking at its predecessors, EU5’s patch 1.1 proved predictably chunky while laying the groundwork for the grand strategy game’s first DLC, Fate of the Phoenix, which arrives in Q2 2026.
Army and Navy templates are on the way alongside the ability to permanently mute alerts, several new map modes, as well as a bevy of other quality of life additions.
Europa Universalis V’s Rossbach update 1.1 also makes AI less aggressive by default while adding AI aggression as a game rule. The Holy Roman Empire should become more stable, while navies can escape to a port when at war, reducing micromanagement.
As far as new features coming in EU5’s update 1.1 go, the new Appease Estates cabinet action lets us “focus on an estate if their satisfaction is below 50% and make them happier over time.”
A new combined arms bonus aims to encourage fielding more varied armies, while army balancing templates are also on the way alongside two new peace treaties – Transfer Subject and Steal Maps.
In addition, we can also diplomatically transfer subjects to other countries and move locations between subjects.
On February 3, 2026, EU5’s 1.1 Rossbach patch entered open beta, its sprawling list of changes also revealing the addition of a music player.
As its journey through open beta continued, a set of diplomacy tweaks were introduced, making the AI a bit more reasonable and less prone to suggest changes that were recently rejected.
Later, enfranchisement was tweaked to “no longer duplicate lots of wealth,” while exports and imports were made to have “the same impact on prices” in a market.
Open beta patch 1.1.3 brought more gameplay and content tweaks, including reworking rebel growth to be more affected by the power of pops than investment and rebalancing the serfdom and free subjects societal values to make the former more impactful.
That is everything you need to know about Europa Universalis V’s Rossbach update 1.1 release date. Having now passed this important milestone, the grand strategy game is preparing to receive its first set of DLC.
