Turns out that the rumours were true - the remastered version of Grand Theft Auto V for PC and current-gen consoles will come with a first-person mode.
First reported by CVG, the mode will add assisted aim, free aim and semi-assisted aim, and it sounds like there’s plenty of options for modifying the controls to your taste.
For example, you could opt for first-person targeting with third-person cover, or third-person weapon targeting with first-person driving. Sounds confusing? Basically Rockstar seem to be trying to cover all eventualities, and are clearly going all in with the new mode. They’ve even redone the weapon and attack animations.
“We’ve always been in interested in it, but it’s never really been an option for us,” animation director Rob Nelson told IGN.
That’s changed with the power of current PCs and consoles. “We were out of memory on the old consoles for animations,” Neilson continued. “We were constantly fighting about what we could have and what we could still push in, and what other areas you could steal memory back from – audio, art, maps – for animation. So we could’ve added all the atoms to make a first-person mode to the level we wanted. We weren’t sure the world would have held up the way we would’ve wanted it to.”
Very interesting. The PC version of GTA V, which is 4K enabled, will be released in January 27.
