Co-op shooter Evolve’s second announced monster, the Kraken, has a very different style from the in-your-face brutality of his buddy the Goliath.
As you can see for yourself in this new video courtesy of VG247, Mr. Kraken’s interests include flying above the battlefield and melting people with concentrated lightning bursts.
Kraken is one of three monsters that will ship in the full game; players can either play as the tentacle-faced Cthulhu wannabe himself, or take him on as part of a four-person hunter team.
“He’s not so much of a brawler as he is a shooter,” says Turtle Rock Studios’ co-founder Phil Robb. ”He flies, first of all, which is pretty cool because it makes him pretty hard to find in the environment because he doesn’t leave tracks. Also, he has a lot of ranged attacks, so his preferred place to be is up in the air away from the hunters, throwing lightning bolts and all kinds of ranged attacks against them to… mess their s*** up.”
Among Kraken’s tricks include a seriously damaging AOE lighting bolt, tricky little ‘Banshee Mines’ that he can use to booby-trap downed hunters, and a vortex attack for shoving pesky humans away so he can make good his escape.
So Goliath is the brawler, and Kraken the shooter. Makes you wonder how the third monster prefers to do things. A couple of other tidbits - Robb confirms that alongside the three main foes, there will be twelve different hunters and over twelve maps included in Evolve when the co-op shooter hits PC and consoles this October 21.
