Don your toga and ready your gladius - Crytek’s swords and sandals action title Ryse: Son of Rome is on its way to PC this Fall, and it’s coming in crisp 4K resolution.
Crytek are, unsurprisingly, really pushing the graphics angle. “4K gaming is another leap in graphics quality for PC gamers and Ryse is the perfect showcase for what’s now possible in high-end PC games,” says Crytek’s business development director Carl Jones.
”We’ve given our team the opportunity to show what CRYENGINE can really achieve,” he continues, ”without compromising quality, thanks to the incredible hardware available now to PC gamers. Ryse will be a benchmark PC graphics showcase this year and probably for a long time in the future.”
Big words, but he’s probably right. Ryse will look a hundred times better than almost everything on the market right now. Will it play as good as it looks? Given the mixed critical response when it launched alongside the Xbox One last November, it seems unlikely.
Still, at least you’ll get all the extra content released for the game so far, all for free. That’s the Colosseum Pack containing two character skins and two Arena maps; the Mars’ Chosen Pack containing a new character skin, four Arena maps, and a Survival mode; the Duel of Fates Pack with two character skins, two Arena maps, and one additional Survival map; and the Morituri Pack, with three new Arena maps, two Survival maps, and five solo Arena maps. Phew.
You’ll also net the special edition ‘Ruins’ map and the sword “Legionnaire’s Trust”. Look for Ryse on PC through digital channels and retail outlets later this year. Deep Silver will publish the boxed copies, while Crytek handles the downloads.
