As promised, Californian indie studio The Odd Gentlemen debuted the next entry in the venerable King’s Quest series at The Game Awards last Friday.
One thing’s for sure, the game’s moving far away from the series’ point and click adventure roots. Dragons, capes and big piles of treasure remain, thankfully.
It appears to have morphed into a kind of action platformer instead, though the game’s cartoonish art style remains. The Odd Gentlemen seem keen to maintain the spirit of the original 1984 hit. “Old and grey, King Graham – the hero made legend in the original King’s Quest games – shares the extraordinary stories of his youth with his curious granddaughter, Gwendolyn, taking players back to the feats that shaped a kingdom,” reads the plot blurb.
The King’s Quest reboot is out next year. It’s being published by the resurrected Sierra, now a publishing arm of Activision.
