Did you enjoy FTL? Well, maybe you felt it was lacking in ”retro-futurism and pop culture”? Galactic Princess pledges to deliver faux-80’s action and parody, providing we pledge in return through Kickstarter.
They’ve reached their £20k goal with plenty to spare, but six days remain for more backers. It’s a 2D real-time space combat game, much like FTL, but we’re free to explore.
It’s up to us what kind of space captain we’re going to be, such as lawful do-gooder or a slaving pirate. The more power we acquire, the more eyes will be looking envious at our cargo holds.
Developer CECLY focuses heavily on the ship layouts with us deciding even the shapes of our starships, but they aren’t just aesthetic choices as weapons, engines, shields and vital compartments all need to go somewhere. The very shape of our vessels will also have profound impacts on our combat strategies and tactics.
We’ll manage various rooms in our ships like engineering, cargo holds, cockpits, research labs, docking ports, prions, medic systems, AI control rooms and others. Each of the rooms also give us cues on the state of our ship and must be kept an eye on. It’s unwise to have highly sensitive areas kept on the outside.
Battles are ship-to-ship but then also between the crews when either launches a boarding action. The races of your various crew each have strengths and weaknesses that should be kept in mind, and armed accordingly.
