Reto-Moto’s free-to-play WWII shooter Heroes & Generals will be available via Steam Early Access from 2pm GMT today.
Mixing strategic command with front-line shooting, the game features a persistent war for Europe between Axis and Allied factions. You can basically take any role in the war apart from the guy who serves the tea and biscuits in the officer’s mess. That might be in there as DLC at some point though.
“Heroes & Generals was one of the first 10 games to be Greenlit by the Steam community and the interest we saw for our game during the initial Greenlight days was unbelievable!” said Martin Munk Pollas, MD at Reto-Moto. ”So we’re thrilled to finally welcome the Steam players and offer them to enlist for duty, climbing the ranks as soldiers on the battlefields and maybe even rise to command armies and lead their faction towards victory.”
In Heroes & Generals you can choose to either fight on the front-line in traditional first-person shooty mode, or take a back seat as a General, issuing strategic commands and distributing supplies and gear to your soldiers.
According to a press release there are 1.5 million accounts registered for the game already, so there should be plenty of folks to play with (or shoot in the legs). If you’ve got an account you’ll be able to log in via the new Steam client. It’s also been localized into English, French, German, Spanish, Czech, Polish and Russian.
You can grab the game for free right now and start playing when servers are opened to the public later today.
