Capcom is taking a leaf out of Telltale's book for the upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations 2. According to an announcement made yesterday the game's four chapters will be released episodically, one episode per week.
It's a slightly odd pricing structure; you'll be able to net each episode individually for $6, or buy a Season Pass for $25. The full retail disc version with "additional content", however, will set you back $40.
No word on what that additional content might be just yet, but Capcom say it will be "detailed in the coming weeks and months." Revelations 2 is set up like the original , with four chapters each ending with a TV-style cliffhanger - unlike the original, this time you'll actually have to wait a week to see what happens next. The retail box version collecting each chapter won't arrive until the final episode has been released. So in summary:
Weekly Episodic download
4 individual episodes
$5.99 per episode
Complete Season
All 4 individual episodes plus additional game content
$24.99
Full Retail disc version
All 4 individual episodes plus additional game content
$39.99
Seems a slightly odd way to go about selling what is basically an uncomplicated action horror game, but I guess it does provide a cheaper option if you don't want to splash out for the additional content, whatever the hell that is. I'm not entirely sure Resident Evil storytelling has ever justified the 'dramatic cliffhanger', but there you go.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is coming to PC and last-gen consoles early next year.
