Star Citizen's not all about dogfighting, laser battles and hyperspace jumps you know. You can also wander about planetside, buying items and ships and getting new missions.
Here's creator Chris Robertsthat exciting wandering about. Okay, it's actually pretty impressive seeing the player zoom down from orbit, make his way through the cityscape to the landing pad, then actually hop out of his ship and head into town.
I mean god alone knows how developer RSI is going to get all this working seamlessly, but you can't fault their ambition. After going through some post-docking checks, we see the player character head into a shop to stock up. It's still in the earliest stages of development, obviously, but planets will eventually operate as social hubs where players can gather to trade, chat and take a break from being shot at by pirates.
Star Citizen's space dogfighting and spaceship housing modules, Arena Commander and Hangar, are both out now. What you see here is a section of Planetside, the game's on-foot module. Eventually RSI plan for it to have first-person shooter missions, in its ongoing bid to basically make Star Citizen every game ever.
