PayDay 2 developers Overkill are teaming up with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's Skybound Interactive to create a shooter set in the world of the zombie horror franchise.
Speaking on PayDay 2's Steam page, Kirkman promised that the new title will be "the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for."
Overkill posted a teaser website a few weeks ago, which many assumed was an announcement regarding new content for PayDay 2. Turns out that's not the case at all. The new shooter will, according to a Q&A from the team, be a "co-op first person shooter with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth." You'll play a group of survivors, obviously, scavenging for shelter and supplies and trying not to get chewed on by the undead.
Overkill also promise some crossovers between the new shooter and PayDay 2 itself. The first of these is 'Lucille', a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire that's the favoured weapon of The Walking Dead antagonist Negan. It's going to be offered to the PayDay 2 community free of charge to celebrate the announcement.
This latest adaptation of The Walking Dead will be out in 2016, so it's some way off. Work on PayDay 2 will continue in the meantime, with at least another year of content planned.
