Improvements have been made to In-Home Streaming, such as unlimited bandwidth now capped at 100 Mbit ”for those who want to live on the edge”. The future is now!
Hardware accelerated encoding is also feature in the Steam Beta client via Intel QuickSync, and streaming options have been revamped and reset to default.
The latest Steam Beta client changelog is available here. You can opt into the Steam Beta via the Settings options under the Accounts tab, and then select ‘Change’ under Beta Participation.
Virtual Reality Mode
▪ Added “Virtual Reality mode” to the View menu and removed the –vr command line option. This will only appear if SteamVR is installed and if a supported HMD is detected.
▪ Added support for switching from desktop mode to VR, then back to desktop and into Big Picture.
▪ Added support for detecting when an HMD has been plugged in after Steam has started.
In-Home Streaming Beta
