Okay, so you remember Konami gave the okay to that promising Metal Gear mod? Yeah, well they’ve decided to go back on that, and shut down the project. Sucks.
Solid Snake himself David Hayter had apparently even voiced some dialogue for the mod, which was being developed by the Outer Heaven team.
”The project has been shutdown by Konami, seems that they all couldn’t agree on the project going ahead,” confirmed project lead Ian Ratcliffe in a statement to Metal Gear Informer. “I should have probably mentioned that Hayter was helping with the script too, along with that we had other industry professionals on the team as well.”
Those names included voice actors Adhem Belkhadra, Kaue Lemos, Orion Acaba and Paul Eiding, the voice of Metal Gear Solid character Roy Campbell.
Disappointing, especially considering the hard work that’s clearly gone into the project, but I suppose this is always a risk when you’re messing around with someone else’s IP. Even if you’re not charging for it.
Ah well. The good news is that the Outer Heaven team say that they’ll be back, and they’re intending to work on their own original IP instead.
